There were seven participants in the TAS Hawk Watch at Tyler State Park on September 20th, including members Laura Wilson, Sue Yassen, and four other ladies from around the Tyler area. The weather was against us with mostly clear, blue skies so that most raptors flying would be so high that they would be little specks in the blue if you could find them. We did see a few however. Our first two hawks were possibly Broad-winged Hawks but were a bit too far away to make a comfortable identification. We saw a gorgeous Eastern type Red-tailed Hawk close enough to see all its field marks including its red tail. We also saw a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk, a Cooper’s Hawk, 45+ Turkey Vultures and 20+ Black Vultures. Not a lot of hawks but we had a fun time!
